Your pre-session consultation will help you to clarify whether Rapid Transformational Therapy (RTT) or Spectrum Transition Coaching (STC) will work most effectively with your presenting issues.
RTT lays a strong focus on re-visiting early life experiences and using them as the fuel for transformation. Quite differently, Spectrum Transition Coaching was designed specifically to ensure people are kept safe and out of the content of their past experiences, using highly structured questioning and minimal spoken responses.
The methodology of each approach is outlined in more detail below, and while every client is unique, RTT has had an excellent success rate in addressing unwanted habits such as smoking, nail biting and binge eating. I tend to offer RTT as a maximum of two sessions before using Spectrum tools to ensure that the change work stays varied and relevant to moving forward.
Rapid Transformational Therapy has been influenced by numerous methodologies including hypnosis, CBT, psychotherapy, psychology, healing and neurolinguistic programming (or NLP). RTT embraces many of the positive aspects of hypnosis that are known to produce a transformative effect on clients: the processes of induction, regression, review, integration and transformation allow for profound and lasting changes. Unlike many hypnotherapies, RTT does not rely solely on positive reinforcement.
RTT often delivers dramatic change in 1 to 3 sessions. By using a technique called Role Function, Purpose, it recognises the significance clients attach to their issues/problems and then offers a powerful emotional release. RTT uses Command Cell therapy as a powerful technique for localised healing. Upgrading the Child offers a fast and incredibly effective way to overcome childhood issues. These RTT techniques involve "neuroplasticity" by creating new neural pathways in the mind while removing old unhelpful ones. RTT applies a threefold model of change: instant (experienced immediately), cumulative (experienced gradually), and retroactive (change that is only fully apparent in hindsight by comparing "then" with"now").
The first RTT session concludes with the client being given a 15-20 minute recording of transformative suggestions, and these should be listened to every day for 21 days. As part of the process, the client is recommended to have a second session within three weeks, both to clear up any remaining issues if needed, and to amplify positive feelings and future pace new behaviours.
Spectrum Transition Coaching has been specifically designed to connect people safely to their emotions for the purposes of changing them, even with the most complex presenting issues. Spectrum has had notable successes in helping people who have been victims of childhood abuse, a number military veterans traumatised by combat, and people who have battled a range of chronic phobias, illnesses or addictions.
The creators of STC believe that being traumatised once is enough, and quite often, talking about traumatic experiences or being re-immersed in them via a hypnotic induction, simply reminds people of where they have been and can re-iignite old pain unnecessarily.
The main steps of STC are to establish a safe client-practitioner relationship, to agree a mutual goal for coaching (such as the reduction of negative emotional responses or behavioural change) and to deliver emotional coaching techniques to facilitate change.
Spectrum uses re-framing and linguistic patterns similarly to those used by Milton Erickson and Virginia Satir, both of whom have heavily influenced NLP. Spectrum Transition Coaching teaches the client how to use anchoring effectively to clear stress in the process of transforming old behaviours, and can equally be applied to achieving better results during high performance tasks (eg public speaking, competing and endurance).
A breakdown of the different brainwave frequencies shows Beta as the everyday conscious waking state, while a light trance Alpha frequency is accessed via hypnosis to access the subconscious or unconscious mind. The individual's free will and natural pace must be respected to achieve the best results!
